42 years ago today, the “Mighty Fitz” went down into the drink. Gordon Lightfoot immortalized the event with his 1976 magnum opus. 29 men lost their lives on Lake Superior that brutal November day. Lightfoot cut his studio version of the song short by 29 verses in their honor.
